No matter how complex your AWS setup has gotten, you can move it. Kubernetes clusters, backends, and databases are the easy part, and even AWS-specific tech like Lambda, DynamoDB, or Cognito has a home in Germany or Europe. We plan the move in stages, with zero downtime.

What makes AWS migration different

AWS offers more proprietary services than any other cloud provider. Over time, it’s easy to become dependent on them. That doesn’t mean you can’t move. Core infrastructure is usually straightforward to migrate. AWS-specific services need more planning, but they can be replaced or rebuilt as part of the migration.

Examples from typical environments …

  • Kubernetes, backends, databases. Kubernetes, virtual machines, managed databases, and object storage are built on widely supported technologies. In most cases, they can move without changing your application code.
  • User and access management. Amazon Cognito often becomes a mission-critical part of an application. We replace it with a provider-independent identity platform, run both systems in parallel, and switch users over in stages.
  • Specialized databases. DynamoDB is proprietary to AWS. Moving away from it means redesigning the data model for an open database rather than simply copying the data. It’s usually the most involved part of an AWS migration, but it also removes one of the biggest sources of vendor lock-in.
  • Serverless applications. AWS Lambda functions and event-driven workflows can move to other platforms, but the surrounding architecture usually needs to change as well. The code is often the easy part. Rebuilding the integrations takes most of the effort.
  • Data transfer costs. Outbound data transfer is one of the hidden costs of AWS. Many European cloud providers include outbound traffic or charge significantly less for it. Moving away from AWS can reduce those costs considerably.

Where to move from AWS?


STACKIT, Exoscale, or Open Telekom Cloud

These platforms provide managed Kubernetes, databases, and modern cloud services on technologies your team already knows. Open Telekom Cloud is often a good fit for regulated industries. Exoscale works well for cloud-native applications.


S3-compatible European storage

Many European providers support the S3 API, so your applications continue using the same interface while the data moves to a European provider. For many organizations, this is one of the quickest migration wins.


Hetzner, IONOS, gridscale, or Mittwald

Development environments, internal applications, and compute-heavy workloads often run at a lower cost on Hetzner, IONOS, or gridscale. For websites and ecommerce platforms, Mittwald is usually a better fit than a hyperscaler.
