What European cloud hosts deliver

Modern German cloud providers deliver high availability, the cloud services you actually need, and often lower total costs. For many companies, they’re a real alternative to the big hyperscalers now.

The providers we work with most often …

  • STACKIT: the Schwarz Group’s cloud, the same group behind Lidl and Kaufland. It runs its own data centers in Germany and Austria and excels at container platforms and managed databases. It’s what we recommend most often for modern backend systems.
  • Open Telekom Cloud: Deutsche Telekom’s cloud, with a broad portfolio and deep compliance credentials. A safe choice for regulated industries, the public sector, and companies that want a recognizable name behind their platform.
  • IONOS: a publicly listed German provider with strong value for money and its own AI products. A good fit for mid-market companies that want solid cloud infrastructure and AI services from a single provider.
  • plusserver: a German provider focused on open standards and sovereignty, partly built on the Sovereign Cloud Stack. Worth considering for critical infrastructure and environments with heavy compliance requirements.
  • Exoscale: a European provider from the A1 Group, with data centers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Developer-friendly and strong on container platforms, a good fit for teams building cloud native who need their data to stay in Europe.
  • gridscale: a German provider from Cologne, now part of the European OVHcloud group. Billed by the minute and simple to run, a good fit for dynamic workloads that need to scale up and down on the fly.
  • Mittwald: a family-run German provider specialized in web applications, online shops, and content systems like WordPress, TYPO3, and Shopware. The right choice for keeping your digital presence and smaller applications under your own control.
  • Hetzner: known for excellent value for money on servers and cloud resources. A good fit for cost-sensitive workloads, development environments, and teams that like staying close to the infrastructure.

We’re not tied to any of these providers, and we don’t earn commissions. Our recommendation follows your workflows, not our partner list.

Build it better, not just somewhere else

When you build a new house, you don’t copy the old floor plan. Cloud environments accumulate technical debt over time: oversized resources, unused services, and unnecessary complexity.
