What makes moving off Azure different

Azure environments grow for years, and your logic quietly gets locked into Azure-specific tools, without anyone deciding it should happen. None of that stops you from leaving. Your core infrastructure moves regardless, and we have a way to migrate every Azure-specific piece too.

Examples from typical environments …

  • Kubernetes, backends, databases. Kubernetes, virtual machines, managed databases, and storage are based on widely supported technologies. In most cases, they can move without changing your application code. The challenge is deciding what to move first.
  • Azure-native databases (like Cosmos DB). Services like Azure Cosmos DB don’t have a direct equivalent on other platforms. Instead of copying the database, we redesign the data model for an open alternative. It’s usually the most involved part of the migration, but it removes one of the biggest sources of vendor lock-in.
  • Functions and background services (like Azure Functions). Azure Functions and event-driven workloads can run on other platforms, but the surrounding architecture usually needs to change. The code is often the easy part. Rebuilding the integrations takes most of the effort.
  • Identity and access management. Most applications already authenticate using open standards, regardless of where they run. If you want to replace your existing identity platform, we build the new solution in parallel and migrate users in stages.
  • AI services. Using Azure OpenAI or other Azure AI services? We move those workflows to a sovereign AI platform that gives you more control over where your data is processed and which models you use.

Development environments, internal applications, and compute-heavy workloads often run at a lower cost on Hetzner, IONOS, or gridscale. For websites and ecommerce platforms, Mittwald is usually a better fit than a hyperscaler.
